ਕੋਇ ਨ ਜਾਨੈ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮਾਨੈ ਸੇ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹਰਿ ਦੁਆਰੇ ॥
I met Bhai Jarnail Singh, Journalist (then) and MLA (now), for the first time at screening of Bhai Taru Singh ji movie at Master Tara Singh auditorium, Khalsa College, Delhi. After the screening was over bhai sahib grasped me in a tight hug for long long time, emotions were overflowing and both of us did a silent simran together. Veer ji presented me his book, autographed with a lovely message, which I treasure a lot. The closeness we felt then defied the fact that it was our very first meeting in life.
The first time I met Bhai Jarnail Singh |
Few months later I invited him to Chandigarh screenings of Bhai Taru Singh ji movie. No brainer that his speeches at the screenings were instant hit. We spoke at length drifting from national politics to punjab politics to sikh issues and history.
I still vividly remember the instance when we were talking about my father, listening to his highly principled life imbued in Gurmat, Bhai Jarnail Singh exclaimed
"ਕੋਇ ਨ ਜਾਨੈ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮਾਨੈ ਸੇ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹਰਿ ਦੁਆਰੇ ॥"
Though I must have listened to this Gurbani Pankti many times before in life but the way and the context it was spoken had a profound impact on me. That instance I remembered many Gursikhs who am very fortunate to know or had seen from close quarters. They all lived an exemplary Gursikh life and were respected by all. Not many know about them but were such pure souls that without doubt they merged with the Eternal Light after departing this world.
Ever since I'm been thinking about writing reminiscences of those noble gursikhs but somehow couldn't make a start. Yesterday when I first heard about Bibi Baljinder Kaur ji's akal chalana it rekindled memory Bhenji's kirtan of shabad "ਤੂਹੈ ਹੈ ਵਾਹੁ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜਾਇ ॥" at antim ardaas of Veerji Bhai Joga Singh ji at village Mithapur, Jalandhar. Bhai Sahib Joga Singh ji was one Gursikh whose exemplary life I had wished to share as "ਕੋਇ ਨ ਜਾਨੈ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮਾਨੈ ਸੇ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹਰਿ ਦੁਆਰੇ ॥". With Guru Sahib's blessings I hope to do it soon.
